Make your own homemade hot taco sauce to use in tacos, burritos, and taco salads. Replace the store-bought version with a homemade version so you know EXACTLY what’s inside! With just a few ingredients and a few minutes, you can make delicious homemade taco sauce!
Why Does This Recipe Work
I occasionally become obsessed with foods and other random things (my husband can attest to this), and homemade sauces are one of those things right now.
It’s great to have control over what goes into my sauces because, well, have you ever read the labels on grocery store containers (high fructose corn syrup, preservatives, etc.)? I have no idea how to pronounce the majority of the ingredients!
And, to be honest, nothing beats homemade, and that goes for any recipe under the sun, including this one. So make a large batch, store it in the fridge, and use it in place of ketchup throughout the week! It’ll give taco night and every bite of food a zing and flavour.
There’s no need to steal dozens of Taco Bell sauce packets anymore, ha! This recipe is quick and simple, and it will quickly become a kitchen staple in your home.
Ingredients for the Recipe
Tomato sauce can be substituted with tomato puree or ketchup. Tomato paste can also be used, but reduce the amount by half if doing so.
If desired, replace the apple cider vinegar with another type of vinegar, such as white vinegar.
Granulated sugar – For a less sweet result, leave out the sugar entirely.
Step 1 of Making Taco Sauce
Combine the following ingredients in a small saucepan:
For instance Ketchup vs. tomato puree
Apple cider vinegar and water
Garlic powder or salt
Cayenne pepper, paprika
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a low heat. Allow to simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until thickened (stirring occasionally). Allow to cool before storing in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to use.
Notes on the Recipe
Refrigerate in a small container, glass bottle, or mason jar for up to 3 weeks.
Fresh herbs can be used in place of dried, but they must first be finely chopped. Another option is to process them in a food processor. Also, if using fresh, double the amount.
Taco Sauce Applications
So drizzle it on top of your next batch of Taco Cups, Baked Tacos, or Mexican pizzas.
Replace it with salsa in your next taco salad, or even a regular salad.
Drizzle it over your next pile of nachos!
Taco sauce goes well with any Mexican dish.
Taco sauce can be used in place of your favourite hot sauce.
Seriously, use it in place of ketchup for almost anything! Eggs, hash browns, burgers, and so much more are available.

How to Remove Taco Sauce from Clothes
For instance here’s an easy way to get taco sauce out of your clothes! Stir together one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and two cups of warm water. Dip the edge of a clean cloth into the mixture and use it to blot the stained area of the clothing.
Repeat until the stain has vanished. Each time you dunk the cloth into the cleaning solution, use a different clean portion of the cloth.

If you frequently use this zingy seasoning, the homemade version is well worth making. So It’s very inexpensive (you probably have all of the ingredients in your spice cabinet!) and a little goes a long, long way.
Furthermore, you have complete control over the seasonings you use on your meat. People, no more store-bought taco seasoning!
Combine the following ingredients in a small bowl
For instance Chipotle powder
Paprika and cumin (use smoked paprika for a smoky flavor)
chile pepper (depending on how spicy you want it to be)
That’s all there is to it!
Taco Seasoning Applications
So combine it with your next batch of ground beef taco meat.
It can be mixed into any creamy dip (yum).
In fact, you could add it to almost any meat-based meal to turn it into a tasty, spicy dish. Meatballs, burgers, or even chicken come to mind.
Use it as a rub for your next rotisserie chicken or ribs!
For an extra kick, add it to salad dressing.
Taco Meat Freezing Instructions
So one of my favourite aspects of taco meat is the ease with which it can be frozen. When it’s cool enough already to handle, place it in a ziplock freezer bag. Eliminate as much space as possible from the bag and seal it tidily.
Configure the meat in a baking tray within the rucksack. Place the bag in the freezer, flattening it out. Freeze for three to four months.
Allow the meat to thaw completely before serving, preferably overnight in the refrigerator. In a skillet, heat the contents over medium heat until just heated through. If appropriate, add a few 2 teaspoons of bacterial suspension or water.
